‘Yesterday’s Sun Won’t Dry Today’s Washing’- Ncikazi Issues Warning as Pirates prepare to Defend Their Title

In his first season in charge, Abdeslam Ouaddou guided the Soweto giants to three trophies after taking over from former coach Jose Riveiro.

The highlight of the campaign was Pirates’ triumph in the league, ending a 14-year wait for the coveted title and cementing their status as one of the country’s dominant sides.

However, Ncikazi believes past accomplishments offer no guarantees going forward and stressed the importance of proper preparation ahead of the upcoming season.

“What we have done this year is no longer important in terms of saying, you can’t dry today’s washing using yesterday’s sun; that’s what has always been said,” Ncikazi said.

The assistant coach warned that rival clubs will be eager to target and defeat Pirates following their recent success.

Preparations for the new campaign are expected to include a return to Spain for a pre-season training camp. Should the trip materialise, it would mark the club’s third consecutive year conducting pre-season preparations in the European nation.

He added: “What happened before is not going to bear any result in relation to what happens in the next season. We have to prepare well, and we must know that we are a team to beat, so we must prepare thoroughly.”
