Sundowns were crowned African champions after playing to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the final, sealing a 2-1 aggregate victory to complete a memorable continental campaign.
Mokoena delivered the defining moment of the match with a superb first-half strike, while captain Ronwen Williams also emerged as a hero after saving a penalty in the second half to keep the Brazilians in control.
Speaking to SABC Sport after the final whistle, Mokoena revealed that he had dreamt about scoring before the game.
“You know what’s funny, in my dreams today when I was sleeping I saw myself scoring a goal like that and you know what I’ve been saying to my family, I hope God is on our side tonight and we won,” said Mokoena.
“So, I’m very grateful, very happy. I know how much this means for everyone back home. The staff, everyone, Mamzo in the kitchen, our supporters, small group of about 57 people back home.”
The midfielder admitted that the magnitude of the achievement had not fully sunk in yet, especially with Sundowns now set to wear a second star on their jersey following their continental success.

“I’m very excited, I don’t know what to say. Next time we wear this jersey it’s going to be two stars,” he added.
Mokoena also looked ahead to an exciting period for Sundowns, with the club now preparing for several major international competitions, including the FIFA Club World Cup.
“Oh yes, the Club World Cup, Super Cup, Intercontinental, so many tournaments. Yes, I’m very happy,” he said with a laugh.
The newly crowned African champions are expected to arrive back in South Africa on Monday through OR Tambo International Airport before embarking on a trophy parade in Pretoria on Tuesday.
