Sekhukhune United, Durban City and Polokwane City all completed victories on Tuesday evening over teams hovering around the Betway Premiership relegation zone.
Orbit College 0-3 Durban City
Durban City bounced back from the recent defeat to Orlando Pirates to beat fellow PSL newcomers Orbit College by three unanswered goals at Olympia Park.
The Durban-based club began brightly with Saziso Magawana providing problems for the Orbit defence, but had to wait until just before the end of the first half to take a deserved lead through a Thabo Nodada penalty.
City doubled their lead in the 55th minute after Samkelo Maseko’s good finish from Magawana’s assist.
College came close to pulling one back through a Mbulelo Wagaba header, but veteran goalkeeper Darren Keep made a good save to maintain City’s two-goal cushion.
Midfielder Haashim Domingo added icing on the cake for City with a long-range strike three minutes into additional time.
The win moves City up to seventh spot on the league table, whilst Orbit find themselves in 13th position.
Stellenbosch 1-2 Polokwane City
Stellies’ woeful Betway Premiership form continued as they failed to come back from two goals down against Polokwane City at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday.
The visitors managed to contain a threatening Stellenbosch before finding their footing in the match, with Siyabonga Mashinini earning a penalty in the 38th minute that was duly converted by Lebohang Nkaki.
City doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time through Thabelo Tshekweta’s header from a wonderful cross from Tlou Nkwe.
Steve Barker shuffled his side for the second half as they looked to claw back into the match and were rewarded when in-form forward Langelihle Phili scored at the hour mark.
However, the Western Cape side could not find an equaliser to condemn them to their eighth defeat in the league this season.
Stellenbosch find themselves stuck in 14th position on the table whilst City move up to sixth spot.
Magesi 0-1 Sekhukhune
Sekhukhune United edged Magesi by a single goal at the Seshego Stadium on Tuesday to end a five-match winless run in the Betway Premiership.
The visitors took a 6th-minute lead through Vusumuzi Ncube’s finish from inside the box to put Dikwena on the back foot.
Both teams could not put a shot on target for the rest of the first half, but Magesi came out and dominated the match in the second stanza, constantly threatening Babina Noko’s defence, but failing to find an equaliser.
The result sees Magesi remain in 15th position whilst Sekhukhune are third on the log.
