Vusumuzi Vilakazi officially returns to Chippa United after Luc Eymael exit

Chippa United have confirmed that Vusumuzi Vilakazi has returned to the club as head coach after the club parted ways with Luc Eymael on Wednesday.

The former Golden Arrows, Richards Bay and AmaZulu coach had recently been employed by Motsepe Foundation Championship side Kruger United before leaving the club to join the Chilli Boys.

Vilakazi had previously occupied the Technical Director role at Chippa United during the 2023/24 season before joining Richards Bay as head coach in December 2023 and also acted assistant coach for a short period of time.

“We are pleased to welcome back Kanu Vilakazi as the new Head Coach. Familiar with our Club’s values and ambitions, he is well-placed to lead us forward in the Betway Premiership League,” read the statement by club Sporting Director and Bafana Bafana analyst Sinesipho Mali.

Mali also further slammed false media reports that suggested that he was part of the training session with the new coach earlier before the official announcement.

“This article is misleading, to imply that our new Head Coach started training today alongside SD,” stated Mali on his social media account.

“I’ll NEVER be part of a training session on the field on my capacity as a Sporting Director. This is really poor journalism, creating a very wrong impression. So disappointing to say the least.”

As things stand, Vilakazi will only get to lead his bottom of the table team for the first time when they host AmaZulu at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London on 1 November.
