Orlando Pirates’ Selaelo Rasebotja focused on full recovery as he targets impactful return

Orlando Pirates midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja is determined to make a strong comeback after being sidelined since the start of the season due to injury.

The 24-year-old, who joined Pirates from Supersport United, had yet to establish himself as a regular starter following his move from the now defunct Matsatsantsa a Pitori.

Under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who has emphasized giving all players opportunities, Rasebotja has focused on a measured recovery rather than rushing his return to the pitch.

“I am still in the early stages of my rehab,” Rasebotja told IOL. “There is no pressure for me to come back quickly, but I just have to take the right steps because it was a very bad injury. I am happy that everything went well and I hope to recover just in time to contribute to the club.”

The injury came at a pivotal moment in his career. After glimpses of first-team action under former coach Jose Riveiro last season, he was poised to impress Ouaddou this term, but the setback has delayed his plans.

With the club’s squad strengthened by new signings, Rasebotja knows returning fully fit is crucial to making an impact and competing for playing time. However, he remains hopeful of a strong return and praised the club for the support he has been getting.

“It was disappointing to get injured at that stage, but I believe nothing happens by chance. It may be preparation for something bigger. My focus now is to stay mentally strong and ensure I complete my rehab properly so I can return and contribute,” he added.

“The club has been very supportive, providing resources and care, especially for our mental well-being.”
