Kaizer Chiefs have released a statement addressing the news of parting ways with head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
The reports surfaced following their 3-1 loss to the top of the log Sekhukhune United on Wednesday, which was their first loss of the season, suggesting that he doesn’t have the required qualifications to be on the bench for continental competitions.
“Kaizer Chiefs confirms that Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi is currently not with the team as discussions between the Club and the Coach remain ongoing. The matter is internal in nature and is being addressed through the appropriate processes,” reads a statement from Chiefs.
Amakhosi are in Angola to kickstart their CAF Confederations Cup journey against Kabuscorp S.C.P on Saturday at Estadio 11 de Novembro.
Nabi had missed the club’s first three matches of the season after he had to travel home to attend to a family emergency, and assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cendric Kaze took charge of the team.
The pair is expected to hold the reins for the foreseeable future until the matter has been resolved.
“The Club remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity for the players and supporters during this period.
As this is an internal matter, no further details will be shared at this stage.
We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our supporters and the broader football community. Any updates will be communicated through official Club channels when appropriate,” the club concluded.
