Siyabonga Nomvethe backs Bradley Grobler to overtake Peter Shalulile in PSL scoring record

Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker and Bafana Bafana legend Siyabonga Nomvethe is positive that veteran striker Bradley Grobler can dethrone the current all-time leading PSL goal-scorer, Peter Shalulile.

For years, the Premier Soccer League’s all-time goal-scoring record belonged to former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Siyabonga Nomvethe, who racked up 129 goals across all competitions.

That record is now held by Mamelodi Sundowns’ Shalulile, who netted his 130th goal against Stellenbosch last month. Grobler, meanwhile, is closing in on Shalulile’s tally following a brace against Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday.

Grobler currently sits five goals away from Shalulile’s record and half a dozen behind Nomvethe and at the rate he is going on, Nomvethe is of the view that the 37-year-old has what it takes to challenge ‘Sha-Sha’.

“At the end of the day it is important for records to be broken. the record was there for a long time and I was expecting that one of the South Africans would break it – maybe he is yet to come,” Nomvethe told Hollywoodbets Sports Blog.

“What is important for Grobler is for him to play and satisfied to the point that he happy with his contribution. If God continues to give him the ability to be strong and play, he must continue because that gives me joy to see. I also played and and enjoyed my career,” he added.

While it is clear that Nomvethe prefers to have a South African owning the PSL’s all-time record, he does acknowledge Shalulile’s efforts, who also holds the record for the most PSL Golden Boots with three to his name.

“Even though the record has been broken, the sad thing is that it was broken by a foreigner, but at the end of the day, the boy was performing in front of us and we can’t deny it, he is still going strong and he is still young,” Nomvethe said.
