PSL Transfer Saga: Gavin Hunt Blames Kaizer Chiefs for Transfer Deal Collapse Large: Durban City Boss Gavin Hunt Happy with Unbeaten Start

Veteran coach Gavin Hunt has taken aim at Kaizer Chiefs, accusing the club of derailing the proposed transfer of striker Tashreeq Morris to newly promoted Durban City.

Hunt claims the move could have revived Morris’s career, but insists Chiefs’ interference blocked the deal, leaving the player stranded and uncertain about his future.

Morris’s career at Kaizer Chiefs has been a frustrating one. Since joining the club in January, he has failed to make a single appearance this season, falling drastically down the pecking order.

The recent transfer window has seen a massive influx of attacking talent at Amakhosi, with Flavio da Silva, Khanyisa Mayo, Luke Baartman and Etiosa Ighodaro all joining the squad to compete with the likes of Ashley du Preez. This has made Morris’s situation even more precarious, as he has yet to score a goal for the club.

Hunt, who previously worked with Morris at SuperSport United, had hoped to bring the striker to Durban City. Their previous collaboration at SuperSport saw Morris thrive under Hunt’s guidance, and the coach believed he could revitalize the player’s career. However, the deal collapsed, and Hunt was quick to point the finger at his former club.

“We had to make a decision, that is my call,” Hunt said as quoted by iDiski Times. “I can take Morris tomorrow, but obviously now [I can’t] because the budget is gone.”

The failed transfer is a significant blow for Morris, who now has just a few days to find a new club before the PSL transfer window closes on Monday, September 22.

With his contract at Chiefs set to expire at the end of the season, a reunion with Hunt could still be a possibility in the future.
