According to SABC Sport, Kaizer Chiefs and head coach Nasreddine Nabi are set to go their separate ways with immediate effect, a dramatic turn of events following the club’s first league defeat of the season.
The primary reason for the split is reportedly related to Nabi’s CAF coaching qualifications, which would prevent him from being on the bench for Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF Confederation Cup matches.
The club is expected to release an official statement shortly.

Reflecting on a Difficult Defeat
The news comes just a day after Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 3-1 Betway Premiership loss to Sekhukhune United. The defeat, which marked Amakhosi’s first of the season, saw them drop to third place on the log with 13 points from six games. Sekhukhune United, meanwhile, climbed to the top of the standings with 16 points.
The match at FNB Stadium was a tough one for the Soweto giants. Bradley Grobler opened the scoring for Sekhukhune just five minutes into the game.
While Flavio Silva managed to pull one back for Chiefs in the 13th minute, the second half belonged to the visitors. Grobler netted his second goal of the night in the 50th minute, and Thabang Monare sealed the result with a goal six minutes later.
This unexpected coaching change adds an extra layer of tension as Kaizer Chiefs prepare for their first CAF Confederation Cup match. They are set to face Kabuscorp at Estádio 11 de Novembro on Saturday, September 20, 2025, with kickoff at 17h00.
The timing of this departure raises significant questions about who will lead the team from the touchline in this crucial continental fixture.
