Sekhukhune United striker Bradley Grobler delighted to score against Kaizer Chiefs

Sekhukhune United striker Bradley Grobler admits he was delighted to score against Kaizer Chiefs after being written off by the Soweto club.

The 37-year-old frontman scooped the Man of the Match award for his brace and assist in the 3-1 Betway Premiership victory against Amakhosi at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday, which left the club on top of the league standings.

The former SuperSport United striker opened the scoring for Babina Noko at the FNB Stadium after just five minutes.

Flavio Silva levelled with his goal after 13 minutes, but Grobler restored Sekhukhune’s lead with his second effort of the night after 50 minutes.

Thabang Monare then sealed the result with his strike after 56 minutes.

Grobler, who was reportedly close to joining Chiefs in 2020 as a replacement for Samir Nurkovic, now has four league goals in six games, alongside two goals in three MTN8 games this season.

Speaking after the game, the player had a cheeky dig at his side’s opponents. He said SuperSport: “Sometimes it’s nice scoring against teams that told you that four, five, six years ago you were old and past your prime so it’s good to be scoring against these teams.

“I think tonight was a big performance. A performance that probably gonna make people take us a bit more serious but we don’t want to put that pressure on ourselves. Obviously, we want to go on and win every game.”

The striker added: “We’d like to fight for the league and tonight I think a big stepping stone even though we’ve got a long way to go.

“There’s nothing against the team [Chiefs], like I said, the nice thing it’s a team that six, seven years ago told me I was old and past my prime, I must be honest that feels nice [to score against them].”

Grobler has scored 12 in all competitions against Kaizer Chiefs throughout his career.
