Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika believes the club’s long-awaited Nedbank Cup triumph is more than just a moment of celebration — it’s a turning point that signals the beginning of a new chapter of success for the Soweto giants.
Last weekend, Amakhosi ended a decade-long trophy drought by lifting the Nedbank Cup, a victory that not only brought relief but also renewed belief across the club and its supporters.
That being said, there’s little time to bask in the glory, as Chiefs are now shifting their focus to finishing strong in the league.

Their immediate goal is to secure a top-eight spot in the Betway Premiership, which would ensure qualification for next season’s MTN8 competition.
That journey continues with a high-stakes clash against third-placed Sekhukhune United this Saturday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Speaking ahead of the match, Kwinika reflected on the importance of the Nedbank Cup victory and what it means for the club’s future.
“I am happy because it is something [winning Nedbank Cup] we have all been looking for,” Kwinika said. “It has lifted a bit of weight from us, but we are professionals at the end of the day. We have a job at hand and we know we can’t celebrate forever. But we take this good feeling as the start of better things.
According to Kwinika, the mood in the camp has shifted. The Nedbank Cup win wasn’t just a standalone achievement — it has sparked a hunger for more silverware.
“The road to winning more trophies starts this Saturday against Sekhukhune,” he continued.
Kwinika emphasized the importance of finishing the season in the top eight, calling it a critical step toward restoring Chiefs’ stature.
“Finishing in the top eight makes a lot of things possible. The Nedbank Cup win gives us even more motivation to make the top eight so we can recreate the feeling.
“The most important game is always the next game,” he concluded.
The upcoming match will be a true test of character. While Chiefs are looking to maintain their post-cup momentum and climb into the top half, Sekhukhune United are chasing their own ambitions — aiming to secure a CAF Confederation Cup berth for next season.
With both teams having everything to play for, Saturday’s clash promises to be intense, emotionally charged, and potentially season-defining.
Kaizer Chiefs will need to bring their A-game if they are to overcome Sekhukhune, who have been in strong form this season, and push for a spot in the competition’s top tier.
Babina Noko will also be motivated following head coach Eric Tinkler winning the Coach of the Month for April, with midfielder Keletso Makgalwa scooping the Player of the Month award. Kick off at the Peter Mokaba Stadium is set for 15h00 on Saturday, 17 May 2025.
