Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso praised his players’ collective effort and unselfish play after their emphatic victory over Stellenbosch.
Lucas Ribeiro, Iqraam Rayners, and Arthur Sales all found the back of the net in the win.
Cardoso was especially encouraged by the team’s attacking depth and shared responsibility in front of goal as they beat Stellenbosch 3-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
“What’s important is that we saw Iqraam (Rayners), Tashreeq (Matthews), Lucas (Ribeiro), Arthur [Sales]… even Thapelo (Maseko) came on and performed well,” said Cardoso.
“It’s important that the team produces football – the goals will come naturally. I don’t worry about who scores.”
The coach emphasized that he places more value on teamwork and work ethic than individual accolades.
“I only worry about whether the players on the pitch work for the team so that we can score – and that’s what they’ve been doing. Lucas made a beautiful assist for Iqraam’s goal today, and that’s what we’re about,” he added.
Cardoso also reflected on the deeper culture and values instilled in the squad, referencing the team’s motto.
“This is the spirit we carry, the values we believe in. The phrase ‘ubuntu botho’ is printed on our shirts – it means we play as one. We work together, not as individuals. I’m always happy when we score as a team and enjoy our football. That’s what truly matters.”
