The grand finale of the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League has been confirmed, with the dates set for the highly anticipated showdown between South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian revelation Pyramids FC.

Reigning champions and record-holders Al Ahly of Egypt, boasting an impressive twelve titles, saw their quest for a historic thirteenth crown thwarted in a captivating semi-final battle against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Al Ahly had previously navigated past Al Hilal of Sudan with a 2-0 aggregate victory, setting the stage for a tantalizing clash against a familiar foe.

Mamelodi Sundowns secured their place in their third-ever CAF Champions League final after a last gasp equalizer against Egypt’s formidable Al Ahly. The decisive moment arrived courtesy of a late own goal by Yasser Ibrahim in the second leg, a result that not only propelled Sundowns to the final but also halted Al Ahly’s remarkable streak of five consecutive final appearances.

Meanwhile, Pyramids FC have etched their name in the history books of African football by reaching the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League semi-finals for the first time in their relatively short history. Despite a 2-0 away defeat in the second leg against Morocco’s FAR Rabat, their commanding 4-1 triumph in the first leg in Cairo proved decisive, securing a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Their journey to the final also saw them overcome another South African powerhouse, Orlando Pirates, in a thrilling quarter-final tie that ended 3-2 on aggregate, with a brace from the prolific Fiston Mayele proving instrumental.

This sets up an intriguing final showdown between the South African topflight runaway leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, and the current leaders of the Egyptian Premier League, Pyramids FC.

The first leg of this highly anticipated final is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 24 May 2025, on South African soil. The decisive second leg will then see Mamelodi Sundowns travel to Cairo to face Pyramids FC on Saturday, 1 June 2025.
