Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has stressed the importance of their upcoming league encounter against Marumo Gallants at FNB Stadium this Saturday, highlighting the absolute necessity of securing a victory as they fight to maintain their place within the top eight of the Betway Premiership.
The Soweto giants’ aspirations for a strong league finish suffered another setback following a disappointing goalless draw against Chippa United.
This result leaves them precariously positioned in eighth place with 31 points, a standing that Bvuma acknowledges is far from their desired outcome with the season drawing to a close.
Despite the frustration of the previous match, Bvuma insists that the team’s focus has shifted entirely to the challenge posed by Marumo Gallants.
“I don’t think it has played any part in our minds (the draw against Chippa). Because we know the importance of the game that we are going to play over the weekend.
We know that we need points, and we know that we are not in the position that we would like to finish in at the end of the season,” the shot-stopper stated, emphasizing the collective understanding of the task at hand.
Bvuma further elaborated on the significance of consistency against all opponents, stressing that crucial points can be gained in matches against teams perceived as less formidable.
“Also, we understand the importance of winning these so-called smaller games, not just the bigger ones, because those points can take us higher up the log standings.” This highlights the team’s awareness that every match presents an opportunity to climb the league table.
While the looming Soweto Derby clashes against Orlando Pirates – both a league fixture and the highly anticipated Nedbank Cup final – are undoubtedly on the horizon, Bvuma maintains that the immediate focus remains firmly on the Gallants game.
“So, I wouldn’t say the players are solely focused on the derby because right now, every game is like a cup final for us. If we win against Marumo, we gain momentum going into the next game. We know we need to secure the maximum points available to improve our league standing.”
Kick off at the FNB Stadium is set for 15h00 on Saturday, 26 April 2025.
