Betway Premiership Weekend Preview: Gallants Face Arrows as Limpopo Derby Heats Up

The Betway Premiership serves up an action-packed weekend as Marumo Gallants face Golden Arrows, Sekhukhune United square off against Polokwane City in a high-stakes Limpopo derby, and Magesi FC look to extend their winning streak against TS Galaxy.

Marumo Gallants v Golden Arrows

Marumo Gallants will continue their push to stay clear of the relegation zone when they host Golden Arrows. Gallants have found a purple patch in recent weeks, going unbeaten in their last three league matches. Currently 12th on the table, they’ve registered back-to-back wins over Cape Town City and TS Galaxy, followed by a gritty 1-1 draw with SuperSport United—results that have breathed new life into their survival hopes.

Golden Arrows, sitting 10th, have also shown signs of resurgence. The Kwa-Zulu Natal based outfit have seen just one league defeat from their previous five topflight outings. Indeed, that stretch included a memorable 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Sekhukhune United v Polokwane City

All eyes will be on the Peter Mokaba Stadium as Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City lock horns in a fiery Limpopo derby on Saturday.

Fourth-placed Sekhukhune come into the match just one point off third place, aiming to solidify their bid for continental football. Their recent 2-1 away win over Cape Town City was a perfect response to their narrow Nedbank Cup exit at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Polokwane City, sitting sixth, are still in the hunt for a top-three finish but face an uphill battle. Whilst they sit just four points behind third placed Stellenbosch, their recent form in the Betway Premiership has been underwhelming.

Indeed, Rise and Shine have managed only three league victories since the turn of the year, drawing four and losing five of their twelve Betway Premiership outings in 2025. Their most recent result – a 1-0 home defeat to Orlando Pirates extended a frustrating run of form and marked their third loss in four topflight games and continued a decade-long wait for a home win over the Buccaneers.

Magesi FC v TS Galaxy

Magesi FC are riding a wave of momentum as they host TS Galaxy on Sunday afternoon at the Seshego Stadium, aiming for a record fourth straight win.

The Limpopo-based outfit has won six of their last nine matches, including a string of three consecutive 1-0 victories. Their recent scalp of Stellenbosch added some much needed points to their season tally – which sees them three points clear of the promotion/relegation play-off zone.

TS Galaxy, under the guidance of Adnan Beganovic, remain in the race for a top-three finish and a CAF spot. Since Beganovic took over from Sead Ramovic in November, the Rockets have lost only three times and went unbeaten in his first 11 matches in charge.

Currently fifth, Galaxy are just two points off third place. They’ve collected eight points from their last five league fixtures, including a solid 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs earlier this month.
