Vusumuzi Vilakazi has shed light on his unexpected departure from his co-coaching position at AmaZulu, revealing that he is actively working on resolving personal matters that led to his decision to step down.
Vilakazi, who had previously earned recognition for his successful managerial stints at Golden Arrows and Richards Bay, was appointed as a co-coach alongside Arthur Zwane at AmaZulu at the start of this season, following the dismissal of Franco Pablo Martin.
His track record at both Golden Arrows and Richards Bay indicated that he was a promising coaching talent, and his partnership with Zwane was anticipated to yield positive results for the club.

However, despite these high expectations, Vilakazi chose to step away from his role at Usuthu. Reflecting on his decision, Vilakazi shared that it was a difficult and surprising move for him as well.
In an interview with Metro FM, he explained: “It was definitely shocking to be honest [when I left AmaZulu], and it was also shocking to myself as well. But I think it was very important for me so I can pay attention to a few things that have been bothering me.
“You see, sometimes we act as if we can handle situations, and that’s why we are in different fields where other people are doctors, psychologists, and football coaches. So, if I think I can handle things that I should be paying attention to in terms of professional set-up [but I’m not, it is best to leave].
“So, I decided, even though I had a chat with the president in his support, I must be honest, even today he still supports me in what I’m going through. But it’s much better because I have got a few programmes that I’m following.”
The departure of Vilakazi comes as a surprise to many, given the promising start to his tenure at AmaZulu, and it leaves fans wondering what the future holds for both him and the club.
Despite the shock, Vilakazi’s commitment to resolving his personal concerns suggests he is determined to return stronger and more focused when the time is right.
