Mamelodi Sundowns’ Lucas Ribeiro dominates February PSL Awards

PSL has announced the winners of the Betway Premiership Monthly Awards with Lucas Ribeiro emerging as the big winner for the month of February.

Miguel Cardoso and Lucas Ribeiro Costa were named Coach and Player of the Month, respectively. This marks the second time both have received the accolade in the ongoing 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.

Cardoso, who has made an impressive start to his tenure at Mamelodi Sundowns, led his team to six wins in seven matches, securing an impressive 18 out of a possible 21 points.

His tactical expertise gave him the edge over strong competition from AmaZulu FC’s then co-coaches, Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi, as well as Richards Bay FC’s Ronnie Gabriel, who also delivered standout performances during the month.

Meanwhile, Ribeiro was crowned Player of the Month for the second time this season, thanks to his outstanding contribution to Sundowns’ success in February. The Brazilian international played a key role in eight goals, scoring five and providing three assists.

He faced strong competition from Sekhukhune United’s Keletso Makgalwa and Sundowns teammate Iqraam Rayners in the closely contested category.

Additionally, Ribeiro’s solo effort in Sundowns’ victory over Orlando Pirates in Tshwane was voted Goal of the Month, earning him back-to-back awards in the category after winning it in January.

His goal outshone Tshegofatso Nyama’s clinical free kick against Golden Arrows in Cape Town and Shaun Mogaila’s stunning strike against Chippa United in East London.
