Chippa United head coach Thabo September has expressed his hope that Sinoxolo Kwayiba will attract interest from one of the country’s bigger clubs, believing that a move to a top team could help the midfielder reach his full potential.
Since returning to the Eastern Cape from Pretoria Callies, where he worked with former coach Kwanele Kopo in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the 25-year-old Kwayiba has become a key figure for Chippa.
He has excelled in both wide midfield and as an attacking midfielder, contributing nine goals and two assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.
His standout performances also earned him a senior international debut for Bafana Bafana in their 5-0 win over Congo Brazzaville in October.
“It’s good for him [to be attracting interest], for you to move to bigger teams, you need to perform, I think he did well [against Chiefs] we just need to keep him grounded because if he’s not performing, not fit, the player will be affected, but hopefully he gets bought,” he said about the in-form midfielder.
When asked whether he was suggesting Kwayiba should leave in the next transfer window, September clarified that, for the midfielder’s long-term growth and to help him reach his potential, a move might be necessary.
“You want players to move on, I mean what’s [Chiefs’] budget,” September remarked.
“So, you want players to move on, if I want Sinoxolo to stay in the Eastern Cape, it would be selfish. I wouldn’t be wanting the best for the player.
“The best for him is to play for the big teams, the best for him is to play in CAF [competitions]. The best for him for the national team is to be in those games, so I want the best for him.”
