Transfer News: Thembinkosi Lorch Lands Morocco Move

Wydad Athletic Club has confirmed the acquisition of Thembinkosi ‘Nyoso’ Lorch from Mamelodi Sundowns on a loan deal. Lorch reunites with his former Orlando Pirates and Sundowns mentor, Rulani Mokwena, at the Moroccan giants.

Lorch’s move to Wydad comes after Sundowns and Wydad reached an agreement. “Lorch Thembinkos is now part of the family,” read the club’s statement. He arrived in Morocco on Friday to complete medicals and sign the contract.

Mokwena and Lorch have a close relationship, with Mokwena bringing Lorch to Sundowns in January 2024. However, after Mokwena’s departure from Sundowns, Lorch’s game time decreased significantly.

In the current campaign, Lorch played only seven games across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist. In contrast, under Mokwena’s guidance last season, Lorch featured in 24 matches, scoring 11 goals and contributing four assists.

Wydad is banking on Lorch’s experience to improve their position in the league and qualify for the CAF Champions League. The club currently sits fourth in the Botola Pro League with 33 points after 19 matches.

Wydad’s next league assignment is against HUSA at home on Sunday, February 9, at 21:00 SA time at Stade Larbi Zaouli stadium.
