In a match that promised goals but ended without any, AmaZulu FC and Golden Arrows played out a goalless draw at Moses Mabhida Stadium over the weekend.
The local derby left both sets of fans wanting more, with AmaZulu’s co-coach Arthur Zwane expressing particular frustration post-match.
“We created more clear-cut chances than them,” Zwane said after the game. “We are disappointed that we couldn’t get maximum points but we believe, since we are a work in progress, things will change for the better.”
He further emphasized AmaZulu’s dominance, stating, “We had an upper hand and we could’ve done better because we really dictated terms. Their keeper kept them in the game. The guys tried their best but it was not to be.”
Zwane also touched on the integration of new signings into the team, particularly focusing on Bongani Zulu and Sandile Mthethwa. “We know that Bongani has been out of the game for a very long time. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get friendlies to build him up in December.
“We can’t just throw them in because we don’t want to risk injuries but had we scored two goals, we may have given Bongani a few minutes. Sandile is also coming up nicely…he will get his chance,” he explained.
On the other side, Golden Arrows’ coach Musa Bilankulu was equally frustrated with his team’s lack of scoring prowess. “I don’t know where the goals are but the good thing is that we’re creating those chances and surely against Chiefs here (at Moses Mabhida) on Sunday, we will be threatening,” Bilankulu said.
This match against Kaizer Chiefs will be crucial for Arrows, who have now failed to score in their last two games, including a previous goalless draw against Polokwane City.
Both teams will look to convert their chances into goals in their upcoming matches, with Arrows set to host the formidable Kaizer Chiefs, and AmaZulu aiming to bounce back in their next fixture On Wednesday against Sekhukhune United.
The focus for both clubs will be on sharpening their attacking play to avoid similar disappointments in future derbies.
