Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his side were handed a fair draw after they were placed in the Group C of the CAF Champions league along with defending champions Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, Horoya of Guinea and Togo’s As Togo-Port.
Speaking after Tuesday’s draw, Mosimane admitted that Wydad will be the toughest of the three opponents for Sundowns, as they are the defending champions.
He, however, welcomed the challenge, saying that anything is possible for the Brazilians having defeated the Moroccan side 1-0 in Tshwane in the quarter-finals of last year’s edition of the competition.
However, Wydad won their home match with the same scoreline for a 1-1 stalemate, before going on to win the tie on penalties – ahead of eventually being crowned champions of the continental club competition.
Mosimane, meanwhile, added that Guinea’s Horoya are also a good side, but will have to do their research on AS Port, who Sundowns know little about.
The Downs told Caf Online: “It is a fair draw. You can’t ask for less, you can’t ask for more. It is the top 16 and you take whatever that comes.
“With regards to Wydad, both of us are not sure of each other. We beat them at home (1-0) and they also beat us in their home match 1-0, though they won the tie on penalties to go all the way and win the competition.
“They are the current champions and we also won it in 2016 so it will be interesting to play them.
“Horoya plays good football with great passing technique. They are a good team, tactical and have some good individual players.
“The team we don’t know much is AS Port (Togo), and will have to conduct research on them.”
