Zakri slams Sundowns’ selection policy

Former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Yannick Zakri, now at Maritzburg United, has taken a swipe at old boss Pitso Mosimane’s selection policy.

The Ivorian, who played a bit-part role at Sundowns between his move from Asec Mimosas in 2016 and his loan to Ajax Cape Town last season, has hinted that Mosimane was unwilling to rotate his team or give fringe players a chance to move up the ranks.

There were so many things,” Zakri said when asked why his spell at Sundowns didn’t go as planned, according to Kick Off.

I can’t say it was the competition there. Even you knew yourself there it is not the competition, you know who’s going to play. Even if you can come, fight, fight, fight at training, but you know who is going to play.

“It’s not the competition there. So don’t say it’s the competition.”

Zakri has yet to make his debut for the Team of Choice, who he joined from Sundowns during the recent transfer window, but has hinted that his first appearance might come in Saturday’s clash against Bidvest Wits at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

I’m ready to play on Saturday but I can’t say I’m a hundred percent physically because I didn’t do the pre-season,” he said. “But I think I’m fifty or seventy percent, I can play.”
