Yusuf Maart’s revival provides a glimmer of hope during Kaizer Chiefs’ inconsistent run

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has praised Yusuf Maart for his growing confidence, noting the midfielder’s recent improvement.

Chiefs looked set for victory after early goals from Ashley du Preez and Wandile Duba put them in control.

However, a spirited second-half fightback saw Ayabulela Maxwele and Levy Mashiane score for Royal AM, denying the visitors all three points in a thrilling contest.

Amid the disappointment of the result, one silver lining for Chiefs fans was Maart’s continued influence in midfield.

After notching two assists against Richards Bay FC in the previous match, Maart delivered a perfectly timed pass to set up Du Preez’s opener.

Speaking after the match, Nabi praised the club captain for overcoming criticism earlier in the season. “Confidence is key for Yusuf,” Nabi admitted. “He sometimes faces too much criticism, and mentally, it’s not easy.

“But in the last two games, he has shown significant improvement. Today, he gave a good performance.”

Nabi urged Maart to keep building on his progress. “I want to see more confidence from him. He has the potential to make a big impact for the team,” he added.

The draw left Chiefs in sixth place with just one win from their last five league matches. They will hope to bounce back when they face Polokwane City on Sunday at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 15h30.
