Wydad contact Chiefs over Castro availability

Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro

Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have reportedly inquired about acquiring the services of transfer-listed Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro.

It seems the Colombian forward has fallen down the pecking order at Naturena and is in fact surplus to requirements for 2019/20.

Castro managed just four Premiership goals last season which is seemingly well below the expectations of coach Ernst Middendorp and his technical team.

The arrival of Lazarous Kambole and Samir Nurkovic also means there is stiff competition in the starting line-up.

Such is the player’s start situation at Naturena, his name has been removed from the voting for the Carling Black Label Cup final.

The former Sundowns star sees his deal end in June next year though it is unlikely he will see out his contract.

A source told Kickoff: “There has been contact. But at this stage nothing formal.

“Wydad are currently searching for a striker and Castro has been identified as one of the candidates.”
