UWC Ladies Eye CAF Champions League Berth

The University of Western Cape Ladies have solidified their position as favorites to join Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament.

A convincing 6-0 victory over Young Buffaloes of Eswatini in the COSAFA Qualifiers semi-final has propelled UWC to the regional final. Goals from Khanyisa Manengela, Bongeka Gamede, Ntombifikile Ndlovu, Tiffany Kortjie, Koketso Mamabolo, and Sibulele Holweni secured their place in the championship match.

UWC’s dominance was evident from the start, with Manengela opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 10th minute.

Gamede doubled the lead before halftime, and the floodgates opened in the second half as Buffaloes struggled to contain UWC’s relentless attack.

The Cape outfit will now face Botswana’s Gaborone United in the final, aiming to secure the Southern African crown and a coveted spot in the continental finals.

Coach Thinasonke Mbuli will be hoping to lead her team to a historic achievement and join the reigning African champions on the global stage.

The COSAFA Qualifiers final is set for Saturday, August 24, at Mpria Stadium in Blantyre, with kickoff scheduled for 14:00.
