UEFA EURO 2024: Today’s Match Previews

The group stage drama has settled, and the Euro 2024 knockout rounds are upon us! Sixteen teams remain in the hunt for continental glory, with some exciting matchups already decided. The hosts, Germany, are favorites against a well-drilled Danish side. Denmark’s resolute defense could cause problems, but Germany’s attacking firepower, featuring young star Florian Wirtz, shouldn’t be underestimate. Prior to that one, there is a clash between two European giants which promises tactical fireworks. Italy boasts a strong defense, while Switzerland will rely on their attacking prowess, led by the in-form Xherdan Shaqiri.

Here are SBN’s tips and predictions for today’s matches!

23/10 Switzerland | Draw 18/10 | Italy 29/20 (18:00)
Switzerland and Italy, two European powerhouses, are set to clash in a close knockout stage match at Euro 2024. The Swiss nearly came top of their group, denied only by a 92nd-minute equalizer for Germany in their final group game. They have a strong defense but their lack of offensive spark could see them falter in this one. Add the impenetrable Gianluigi Donnarume in there and I feel they could bow out of the competition here. The shot-stopper registered 11 saves in the group stage, the most by an Italian goalkeeper in the group stage of a major tournament since Gianluigi Buffon at Euro 2012 (also 11). Italy have far more European Championship pedigree than their opponents here and I back them on the win.

6/10 Germany | Draw 11/4 | Denmark 44/10 (21:00)
Germany and Denmark face off in a Euro 2024 knockout stage match. Germany, playing at home with an attacking style, is favored but has shown defensive weaknesses. That being said, the host nation is the top scorer at these European Championships, with eight goals. The last of which was a last-minute equalizer by super sub Niclas Füllkrug. The forward has registered 13 goals across his 19 international appearances for Die Mannschaft and could add to his tally in this one. Whilst Denmark’s resilience shouldn’t be ignored, I think Germany get the victory here.
