Transfer News: Stellies set to bolster midfield

Stellenbosch are keen on adding Marumo Gallants midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi to their ranks, says the player’s agent.

Stellies coach Steve Barker spoke of his intentions to strengthen his side following their progression to the knockout rounds of the CAF Confederation Cup, with one group game still to play.

The Cape-based side are fighting on two fronts, but have seen their Betway Premiership charge stutter with a number of underwhelming performances that has left them in eighth place with just four wins from their opening 11 games.

Mokobodi, 22, has impressed for Gallants in his ten games in all competitons this season and is a said to be a target alongside TS Galaxy midfielder Thato Khiba.

Nimrod Mbhalati of Nida Sports Agency told FARPost: “Yes, there is interest in the boy not only from the team mentioned but also from two other teams that have inquired about him, though it’s nothing concrete for now.

“But I’m happy for him. It’s only halfway through the season, but he is already attracting interest from other clubs. This shows how good the player is; obviously, his teammates should be given credit. Also, remember it’s his first season in the Premier League.

“People have yet to see the best of this boy. He is one of the best passers of the ball, so yeah, let’s wait and see.”
