Manchester City have officially confirmed the signing of Egyptian international forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 25-year-old becomes Pep Guardiola’s third January acquisition, following the arrivals of Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, and has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Premier League giants.
Marmoush’s signature was highly sought after following an impressive spell in the Bundesliga, where he showcased his attacking prowess with a remarkable tally of 15 goals and 10 assists this season. This prolific form made him a prime target for several top European clubs, but Manchester City ultimately secured his services.
Expressing his delight at joining Manchester City, Marmoush described the move as “a day I will never forget.” He emphasized the “amazing feeling” of signing for “one of the best teams in the world” and shared his family’s pride and happiness at the move to Manchester.
“This is a day I will never forget,” Marmoush said.
“To sign for Manchester City – one of the best teams in the world – is an amazing feeling. I am delighted, my family are so proud, and we are all very happy to be here in Manchester.
“With Pep, his technical staff and the world-class facilities here, players have everything they need to improve. That was really enticing for me when I had the chance to come here.
“And I cannot deny I also want to win trophies. City have been the most successful club in England for many, many years, so I know I am joining a winning environment and winning culture. I want to learn from the staff and my teammates, and I want to become a valued member of this winning team.”
Marmoush also highlighted the opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff, as well as the world-class facilities at the club, as key factors in his decision. He believes that the environment at City provides players with everything they need to improve and reach their full potential.
A key motivator for Marmoush’s move is his desire to win trophies. He acknowledged Manchester City’s consistent success in recent years and expressed his eagerness to become part of the club’s “winning environment and winning culture.” He stated his commitment to learning from the staff and his teammates and becoming a valuable contributor to the team’s success.
Marmoush’s career has seen a steady rise through the ranks. He initially joined Eintracht Frankfurt from VFL Wolfsburg for a relatively modest fee of €6 million in July 2023. His journey to the Bundesliga began with Wadi Degla in 2017, and he also gained valuable experience during loan spells at St. Pauli and Stuttgart.
At Manchester City, Marmoush will wear the coveted number 7 shirt. The transfer fee for the Egyptian forward is reported to be €70 million plus add-ons, reflecting his significant value in the current transfer market. This substantial investment underscores Manchester City’s belief in Marmoush’s ability to make a significant impact at the club.
