Mamelodi Sundowns defender Malibongwe Khoza has reportedly attracted interest from Belgian club KAA Gent following a major injury setback in their defence.

Gent are facing the loss of Senegalese centre-back Mouhamed Ngom, who is reported to have suffered a cruciate ligament injury that could keep him out for at least six months.

According to transfer watcher Ekrem Konur, Gent have identified Khoza as a possible replacement. The 22-year-old central defender remains under contract at Sundowns, where he has established himself after progressing through the club’s development academy.

Khoza made his senior debut for the Brazilians in 2024 and has since made 50 appearances, scoring four goals. His progress has also earned him four caps for South Africa.

Gent are not the only European club reportedly monitoring the defender. Konur claims Austrian side SV Ried and French Ligue 2 club FC Nantes are also interested in Khoza.

The Mamelodi-born defender has become an increasingly prominent figure in the Sundowns squad, with his height and defensive presence adding to his appeal.

Transfermarkt currently values Khoza at €850,000, equivalent to more than R15m, although any potential transfer would depend on Sundowns’ willingness to part with a player who remains under contract.

With Gent now searching for defensive reinforcements following Ngom’s injury, Khoza’s performances for Sundowns and South Africa could put him firmly on the radar of clubs looking to recruit from the African market.
