Transfer News: Former Pirates midfielder lands EPL move

Former Orlando Pirates player Marshall Munetsi has realized his dream of playing in the English Premier League after securing a move to Wolves from French club Reims on Deadline Day.

The Zimbabwean international signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the option of a 12-month extension, marking an exciting new chapter in his career. The talented midfielder’s journey to the Premier League began in South Africa, where he played for Orlando Pirates from 2017 to 2019.

During his time with the Soweto Giants, Pirates finished second in the league twice, behind Mamelodi Sundowns. Munetsi’s performances caught the attention of European scouts, leading to his move to Reims in 2019.

At the Ligue 1 outfit, Munetsi established himself as a key player, making 159 appearances and forming a strong partnership with fellow Wolves signing Emmanuel Agbadou. However, the lure of the Premier League and the opportunity to join a bigger club proved too enticing to ignore. The twenty-eight year old who can play in various roles, expressed his delight at joining Wolves.

“I’m delighted. It’s a dream come true for me,” said Munetsi.

“I’ve always wanted to be part of something big, and being part of Wolves is something that is very big for me, and is big for my family.

“It’s a team that I’ve also seen from afar, and the Premier League is the best place to be, so I’m delighted to join the family, to join the team.

“I’m very excited. It’s probably going to be the first time I’ve had a big opportunity to be representing a bigger club. Nothing against Reims, but now you’re going to be playing in the Premier League, playing for Wolves.

“Also, since we have a greater population of Zimbabweans in England, I think I will feel even more at home than I did in France.”
