Eric Tinkler disappointed with only managing a draw from his side’s DStv Premiership clash with Chippa United on Wednesday.
The Citizens are battling with Royal AM for second place on the league standings and a place in the CAF Champions League.
Three points would have taken City above their rivals, but a point left them in third and level with Royal AM on 45 points from 27 games.
Mduduzi Mdantsane missed a penalty against 13th-placed Chippa, with Tinkler bemoaning a number of wasted chances.
He told SuperSport: “To be brutally honest, I’m actually disappointed with the draw.
“I think we knew obviously coming here that it was going to be a tough match because of the way they play. very defensive, low block nine players behind the ball just leaving Eva Nga. And in the first half, we looked to break them down and created one or two little half-chances.
“And we got caught twice actually on the break from them that Hugo Marques had to make two good saves. But I think the rest of the time we were literally camping in there half.”
Tinkler added: “But then the last eight minutes, we got a bit of a reward from all our hard work. A pressing strategy was exceptional, they lost the ball inside the box. We ended up winning a penalty from that pressure. And then you got to put it in the net and we didn’t, we didn’t score that one.”
The boss concluded: “And then I can’t fault the guys for effort, you could see the desire was there to go and collect the three points.
“They really, really put in the effort, it’s just the quality, we lacked the quality in that final third. You know so ja, we just gonna have to regroup and move on but ja, everybody disappointed with the draw.”
