Thembinkosi Lorch set to make impact as Sundowns await recovery

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has provided an update on Thembinkosi Lorch’s progress as he recovers from injury.

Lorch, who missed the team’s pre-season tour in Austria, has begun individual training sessions but has not yet rejoined full team activities.

Mngqithi has expressed optimism about Lorch’s mindset, stating, “Lorch is in a very good head space. He has already started training, though he is not yet into full training.”

Despite this positive outlook, Lorch is expected to remain sidelined for the upcoming month.

Mngqithi noted that the player, along with Sipho Mbule, is still dealing with minor injuries and will not be fit for immediate selection.

The coach has hinted that Lorch might be ready in time for the Betway Premiership’s start next month. “Lorch understands that he is employed by Sundowns and has a responsibility to deliver for the team,” Mngqithi said.

He emphasised the competitive nature within the squad, indicating that Lorch will need to significantly improve his fitness and performance to earn his place.

Mngqithi made it clear that the team have numerous quality players, suggesting that Lorch will have to work diligently to compete with those who participated in the pre-season tour.

“If he does not deliver, we have many other options,” Mngqithi added, underlining the high standards and depth of the squad.

As Sundowns prepare for their MTN8 Cup clash against Polokwane City on Sunday, the focus remains on ensuring that Lorch returns to full fitness and can contribute effectively when he is back to his best.
