Themba Zwane has expressed his determination to claim the CAF Champions League title this season.
Mamelodi Sundowns are fresh from their inaugural African Football League title where they defeated Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca 3-2 on aggregate.
After going down 2-1 from the first leg, the Brazilians rallied to win the following tie 2-0.
Sundowns have only won the Champions League on one occasion, but Zwane feels the time is right to capture their second continental trophy – alongside success with Bafana Bafana – ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
He said in the Citizen: “I want to win the Champions League again and obviously win something with the national team.
“There’s AFCON coming and if I can get that one then I will be happy. My message to the Yellow Nation is that we want to win the Champions League again and win a seventh league title in a row because that’s our culture.”
Zwane added: “Today was special for us because we won this (AFL) in front of our own supporters and I would like to give credit to the team, technical team and all the support we got. We did well and tried to stick to the plan because we knew what they were capable of.”
