“…The main reason is the fact that Sundowns are playing in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025” – Agent on Kodisang’s return to South Africa

Mamelodi Sundowns‘ new signing, Kobamelo Kodisang, was drawn back to South Africa by the allure of competing in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, according to his agent, Mike Makaab.

Kodisang, who recently signed a five-year deal with the Brazilians, had spent over five years playing in Portugal for Moreirense, Sanjoanense, and Braga B. His return to South Africa was somewhat surprising given Moreirense’s recent promotion to the top tier of Portuguese football.

Makaab explained that the opportunity to showcase his skills on the global stage at the Club World Cup was a key factor in Kodisang’s decision. He also believes that this experience could boost the player’s chances of being recalled to the Bafana Bafana national team under Hugo Broos.

During an interview with FARPost, Makaab said,

“In all honesty, the main reason is the fact that Sundowns are playing in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025,”.

“And Kodisang’s desire is also to play for the national team. His thoughts were that if he came back to South Africa, did well with Mamelodi Sundowns, and did well in the Club World Cup, the opportunity would present itself to be with the national team which I have no doubt, will happen.

“One thing I’ve seen with Hugo Broos is he will select players that he believes will do the job for him.

“And we saw him recall Themba Zwane and he has given him the captaincy [lately].

“That’s the major reason for Kodisang to come back to South Africa.”
