Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia revealed that the club parted ways with Andrea Fileccia, and explained why Thamsanqa Sangweni was not signed.
Sangweni had been on trial with the Team of Choice for two weeks but Kadodia said he wasn’t offered a contract as coach Eric Tinkler did not see a place for him in his plans.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder reportedly has had off-field problems that have seemingly impacted his career.
The 29-year-old was released by Chippa United in January and now remains clubless for the foreseeable future.
Kadodia told Kickoff: “We spoke with the coach [Eric Tinkler] and he explained to me he [Sangweni] doesn’t fit into his plans going forward.
“He’s a very talented player but unfortunately we can’t accommodate him.
“We’ve parted ways with Fileccia and other players I can’t mention because we are still negotiating with them. We are not a club that just fires players.”
