Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau is fully behind the decision to name Ronwen Williams as the new captain of the national team.
Tau has been named as vice-captain, while Williams has replaced Thulani Hlatshwayo, who can’t find a way into Hugo Broos’ squad.
Broos has named a youthful squad, but some critics have suggested the squad lacks experience. But Tau, who has recently joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly under Pitso Mosimane from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion, rebuffed those concerns.
“I think our roles don’t change much even though there are titles to it, it doesn’t change much he [Ronwen] has been a senior player at the back, he’s been a senior player in his team and I’ve been a senior player in the team so not much has changed,” Tau told the media.
“I think the guys have played in COSAFA [Cup], some have played in the Olympics, some of them come from CAF, so I think there is experience [for international football]. We just need to integrate everything and work together as a team.”
South Africa face Zimbabwe on Friday in Harare before returning to Mzansi to face the Black Stars at FNB Stadium three days later.
