TASHREEQ MATTHEWS CALLS ON MAMELODI SUNDOWNS TO CONTINUE MAKING HISTORY

Tashreeq Matthews wants to help Mamelodi Sundowns set a new record by going the whole season unbeaten.

The Brazilians head into the final two games of their 2023/24 DStv Premiership without yet tasting defeat.

The club won a seventh successive league title with six games to spare and has since been chasing a history-making end to their current campaign.

Sundowns, who face TS Galaxy away on Tuesday before completing their fixture list at home to Cape Town City at the weekend, have already surpassed the previous points tally in a PSL season.

Matthews, who joined the club from Swedish Allsvenskan side IK Sirius, after a spell with Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, wants Sundowns to further build on their achievements by claiming a clean sweep of wins.

The 23-year-old midfielder said: “Well, it’s a great achievement. We made history but we have opportunity to go even further and to break it even again.

“This time around we have two games left and the next game is against TS Galaxy to take the 72 to 75 and then we have one more, the last game which is the weekend against Cape Town City we have the opportunity to take it to 78.

“So yeah, it feels good obviously making history and breaking records as a team but we have the opportunity to take it even further.”

Matthews has scored four goals and provided one assist in 10 league games since joining Sundowns.
