Moroka Swallows are in the process of buying out Free State Stars and making a swift return to the top flight, according to a report.
Swallows were set to play in the National Second Division (third tier) this coming season following back-to-back relegations.
However, the Birds now appear set on buying Free State Stars’ Premier Soccer League franchise and relocating the club back to Johannesburg.
A consortium, led by Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, is said to be behind the bid.
According to a source quoted by the Soccer Laduma website, the deal is well on the way to happening, although nothing will be official until the league have given it the green light.
“Free State Stars could be likely to have new owners for the new season. There is a consortium that has been in discussions with Free State Stars management about a possibility of buying the club for Moroka Swallows. The parties have reached an agreement (in principle),” a source told the website.
