SuperSport United have the measure of Mamelodi Sundowns, explains Lyle Lakay

Lyle Lakay is confident that SuperSport United will overcome Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership.

The 32-year-old former Brazilians midfielder will come up against his former team at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.

Sundowns have a perfect league record this season with eight wins from eight games, while Matsatsantsa have managed seven wins from their first 12 games of the new season.

Lakay’s side last lost 1-0 to Modern Future in a CAF Confederation Cup clash, and are without a win in three games in all competitions; drawing 1-1 with Polokwane City ahead of a 2-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United.

Sundowns, meanwhile, have only been involved in the CAF Champions League in recent weeks, most recently defeating Mauritian side FC Nouadhibou 3-0.

The last team to beat Sundowns in the league, last season, was SuperSport, and speaking ahead of the midweek game, Lakay said in the Citizen: “They are beatable but they have set the bar so high and they are the team to beat in the country.

“I’ve been there and I know how it is but we have to do our homework…last year they beat Sundowns and I played in that game. I remember that I made a mistake that cost us a goal. As much as we praise them, we can beat them.

“If you ask them on the side, they will tell you that if there’s one team that has given Sundowns problems in the last two years, it is SuperSport.”
