SuperSport United are reportedly on the verge of signing Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic, who recently became a free agent.
Nurkovic, who spent the previous season at TS Galaxy, is expected to join the Tshwane outfit on a free transfer. Despite scoring 10 goals in 29 games for Galaxy last season, the two parties surprisingly parted ways.
The 32-year-old striker will reunite with coach Gavin Hunt, who he previously worked with at Kaizer Chiefs. The pair’s collaboration at Chiefs was brief, as Hunt was sacked eight months into a three-year contract.
Nurkovic’s most recent stint was at Royal AM, where he was involved in a contract dispute. FIFA ruled in his favor, ordering the club to pay him R12 million.
SuperSport United’s need for an experienced striker became more urgent after their star player, Bradley Grobler, suffered an injury at the start of the season. With Grobler out until January, the club has struggled to find consistent scoring options.
The addition of Nurkovic to SuperSport’s squad is expected to bolster their attacking firepower and improve their chances of success in the upcoming season.
