Sundowns host Chiefs on opening day

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced the opening round of fixtures

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced the opening round of fixtures for the new season, with Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns entertaining Kaizer Chiefs.

In a rematch of the inaugural Shell Helix Ultra Cup, Chiefs will get the chance to seek swift revenge after losing 2-1 to Sundowns on Saturday.

The two titans of South African football get proceedings underway at Loftus Versfeld on the afternoon of August 4, with the other five matches kicking off later in the evening.

Bidvest Wits will be hoping to fare better than they did as defending champions last term, when they welcome Free State Stars to the Bidvest Stadium, while the first of two derbies sees newly-promoted Black Leopards host Polokwane City at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Meanwhile, 2017/18 runners-up Orlando Pirates begin their title challenge at home to National First Division winners Highlands Park, who secured promotion back to the Premiership at the first attempt.

The second derby of the opening weekend pits Maritzburg United against Golden Arrows at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as the KZN rivals battle for bragging rights.
