In the draw held at the Confederation of African Football headquarters in Cairo, Sundowns were placed in Group B alongside Raja Casablanca, AS FAR (of Morocco), and AS Maniema (from DR Congo).
Sundowns have secured their 10th consecutive appearance in the CAF Champions League group stage. However, the South African giants have not lifted the trophy since their maiden triumph in 2016.
Meanwhile, Pirates were drawn into Group C alongside Al Ahly (Egypt), CR Belouizdad (Algeria), and Stade d’Abidjan (of Ivory Coast).
The Soweto giants last qualified for the group stages of this continental competition in the 2018-19 season. This marks uncharted territory for both Jose Riveiro and a majority of the squad.
The group stage action will begin on the weekend of November 26-27, with the second round taking place on January 3-4, 2025.
