Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker was thrilled to see his side extend their unbeaten run to 17 games.
The DStv Premiership club most recently defeated Milford FC in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup to secure a quarter-final match-up with SuperSport United.
They also claimed their first-ever top-flight trophy with the defeat of TS Galaxy in the final of the Carling Black Label Cup, and came agonisingly close to lifting the MTN8 – only to lose in the final to Orlando Pirates on away goals.
Barker’s side are, meanwhile, also in fourth place on the DStv Premiership standings, just a point adrift of second-placed Orlando Pirates, and SuperSport in third.
Apart from going down 2-1 to an All-Star 11 in the Black Label Cup exhibition match in January, Stellies last lost an offical game to Mamelodi Sundowns back in September of last year.
They easily saw off Milford in the Nedbank Cup 6-1 and are next in action against Royal AM in the league on Saturday.
Reflecting on his side’s run of form, Barker explained that the spirit and confidence in his players is at an all-time hight.
He said in the Sowetan: “If you look at our season thus far, we are doing incredibly well. Obviously from losing on away goal in the semifinal in the MTN8, going on to win the Carling Knockout and now we are in the last-eight of the Nedbank Cup and we are also in a strong position on the log, we are in a good space as a team.
“I think it’s now 17 games unbeaten with 13 wins and four draws which is really, really an incredible run.
“It’s turning out to be a special season but the important part is to see it through, especially in the league, to maintain our position.”
