Formerly known as Vasco Da Gama, the club changed its name to Stellenbosch Football Club in 2016 when it relocated to the Winelands region. They competed in the National First Division (NFD) from the 2016/17 season until they were crowned NFD champions and gained promotion to the top-flight, Premier Soccer League, in the 2018/19 season.
In the 2023/24 season, Stellies were crowned champions after they won their first-ever trophy since gaining promotion, after defeating TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup final. The club also finished third on the log and qualified for the CAF Confederations Cup.
They have produced quality players including Iqraam Rayners, Deano van Rooyen, Devin Titus, Jayden Adams, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Sage Stephens, Fawaaz Basadien, and Antonio van Wyk to name a few.
