Stellenbosch Winger Van Wyk Heads to Austria

Stellenbosch FC winger Antonio van Wyk is set to join Austrian club SV Ried after a successful transfer negotiation. According to SABC Sport, the move is contingent upon the young South African passing a medical upon his arrival in Europe.

Van Wyk, who was in the final year of his contract with Stellenbosch, had garnered interest from Kaizer Chiefs. However, SV Ried, a second-tier Austrian club, acted swiftly to secure his services.

This transfer follows the recent departures of Deano van Rooyen to Orlando Pirates and Iqraam Rayners to Mamelodi Sundowns, leaving Stellenbosch with a depleted squad.

Van Wyk, who made an impressive 34 appearances last season, was expected to be a key player for Stellenbosch this year. His departure to Austria comes as a surprise, especially given the interest from Kaizer Chiefs.

SV Ried is now awaiting Van Wyk’s arrival for a medical before officially announcing the transfer.
