DStv Premiership runners-up Stellenbosch have completed the signing of Omega Mdaka.
The 20-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs development player signed a ‘long-term’ deal with the Cape Winelands club.
He was released by Amakhosi in October last year but is seen as a defender with a “bright future”.
Stellenbosch CEO Rob Benadie told the club’s website: “We are excited to welcome a player of Omega’s potential to the Club.
“He has a bright future ahead of him and I have no doubt that Stellenbosch is the right place for him to develop his talent.”
According to the Citizen: “Mdaka was one of the Diski Challenge players who were released by Chiefs in October last year after they reportedly refused to be ball retrievers in a Carling Knockout Cup game against AmaZulu.”
After signing a long-term deal with Stellies, Mdaka expressed his pride at joining the club as well as his expectations.
He said: “I feel very excited and grateful to be here because it’s my first professional contract after leaving Chiefs. I feel very excited and a bit nervous, but mostly just excited to get started.
“Seeing how Stellenbosch FC gives youngsters a chance in the first team, and how the youngsters grow and develop in the first team, motivated me to want to play for Stellenbosch and to also showcase my talent to the people of the PSL.
“I want to get silverware, and improve as a player. Hopefully, we can compete to win the PSL with the quality of players that we have, get the MTN8, and reach the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.”
