STELLENBOSCH FC’S DEVIN TITUS REIGNS SUPREME AMONG YOUNG STARS

In South African football, one name shines brightly above the rest: Stellenbosch FC young midfielder Devin Titus.

Stellenbosch’s rising star has captured the attention of fans and pundits alike with his stellar performances, prompting coach Steve Barker to hail him as the standout candidate for Young Player of the Season award.

Titus once again demonstrated his prowess on the pitch as Stellenbosch triumphed over SuperSport United with a resounding 4-0 victory in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash at Danie Craven Stadium last Saturday.

The Cape Winelands outfit have been a force to reckon with in cup competitions, reaching their fourth consecutive cup semi-final.

At the heart of this success is Titus, who showcased his scoring prowess by netting his third goal in the Nedbank Cup and tallying an impressive total of 11 goals across all competitions, coupled with three crucial assists.

With their sights set on further glory, Stellenbosch FC are poised to host Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, awaiting confirmation from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) regarding the venue and date.

Coach Barker didn’t mince his words when lavishing praise upon the 22-year-old midfielder in an interview with iDiskiTimes, asserting, “I think right now, he’s hands down, should be leading, it’s not that he should be joining the conversation.

“I think he is in the conversation of his own right now.” Barker’s sentiments are echoed by Titus’s remarkable statistics, which see him as the standout performer among under-23 players in the league.

Titus’s impact extends beyond the cup competitions, with six DStv Premiership goals under his belt this season. Stellenbosch currently occupy the second spot in the league standings with 39 points after 22 games, a testament to Titus’s pivotal role in the team’s success.

As Titus’s meteoric rise continues, Stellenbosch gear up for their next challenge in the DStv Premiership, facing Sekhukhune United on Wednesday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

With Titus leading the charge, the Cape-based outfit aim to continue their ascent in both domestic and cup competitions, leaving an indelible mark on South African football.
