Stellenbosch FC defender Zitha Macheke has responded to reports linking him with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
Macheke has been one of the standout right-backs in the DStv Premiership this season and says that he would be open to joining Chiefs as it means he would be back home, having been born in Meadowlands, Soweto.
“I’ve been linked with Chiefs for how many years now?” Kwinika questions when queried by KickOff.
“There’s been smoke for the past three years now, and this has been the longest smoke I’ve ever seen (laughs).”
“Let’s just use ‘might’ because I’m unable to confirm something that’s not true and that does not make sense.
“Personally, I have not spoken to Chiefs, and I have not spoken to anyone from Chiefs.
“The only thing I can confirm is my remaining contract includes an option for an additional year at Stellenbosch.
“The club has already decided to exercise that option, that’s what I know.
“If that happens, it could be Chiefs or any team that is good for me then I would do it.
“It’s not about Chiefs only, but even if it’s Orlando Pirates I’d be open to going.
“As long as I’m home in Joburg, even if it’s Sekhukhune, I would go because I will be home.
“If it meets my terms and makes sense to me, then I don’t have a reason not to go.”
