Stellenbosch FC secured their spot in the MTN8 semifinals for the second consecutive year with a comfortable 3-1 victory over FIFA transfer-banned TS Galaxy at Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday.
Goals from Jaydon Adams and Andre de Jong put Steve Barker’s side in control before halftime, while Fawaaz Basadien added a third after the break to seal the win.
The result sets up a semifinal clash with defending champions Orlando Pirates, who defeated SuperSport United on Saturday. Stellenbosch had previously beaten Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup final earlier this season.
Galaxy, who have never beaten Stellenbosch since club owner Tim Sukazi took over, struggled to contain their opponents despite taking an early lead through Kamogelo Sebelebele.
The visitors’ task was made even harder when Macbeth Mahlangu was sent off late in the game.
The remaining MTN8 quarterfinals between Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City, as well as Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City, will be played next weekend to determine the other semifinalists.
