Stellenbosch centre-back Thabo Moloisane targets successful Carling Knockout Cup campaign

Stellenbosch centre-back Thabo Moloisane has challenged his teammates to reach the final of the Carling Knockout Cup.

The Cape-based club made it as far as the semi-finals in this season’s MTN8 where they lost to eventual winners Orlando Pirates.

They were also in the semi-finals of last term’s Nedbank Cup where they came unstuck against Sekhukhune United.

And as they prepare to take on Chippa United in the newly formed competition, Moloisane has targeted a place in the final.

He told the Sowetan: “The Carling Knockout is a very big chance for us.

“It’s a tournament that we’ll give it a full go. We are not in it to add numbers.

“We’ve been in two semi-finals in a space of four months and that shows we are very near to finally reaching a final.”

In the lead up to this game Chippa boss Morgan Mammila said he would have preferred to face Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs or Pirates.

Moloisane added: “What the opponent’s coach has said about us doesn’t really bother us. For us, it’s just to prepare as well as we can to make sure that we progress to the last eight of this competition.”
